This short alternative route through Rodmell takes you passed the Abergavenny Arms pub and National Trust's Monks House (Sussex home of Leonard and Virginia Woolf) as well as taking in the River Ouse. The route also offers the advantages of avoiding a very short but steep section of trail as you drop down from Mill Hill to Cricketing Bottom.

If you wish to visit the pub, this route avoids the need to reclimb the hill or ride along the busy road.

This route has only recently been made possible by the opening of a new bridleway / cycle route along the River Ouse between Southease and Rodmell called "The Egret's Way". this new route will when fully completed connect Lewes with Newhaven.

Please note the Egrets Way between Rodmell and Southease along the river is only surfaced with stone for approcimately half the route.

** Cyclists, please keep your speed down when riding down from the SDW towards Rodmell village. This metalled lane is a public 'Restricted Byway' over a private residential road. There are many concealed driveways.**
